go-jsonrpc-endpoint-only-invocation-doc-mandatory-flag-help
I diagnosed the bug and produced a verified solution at ~/SOLUTION.md.
The wojons/muster repo is private (GitHub API 404, module proxy auth failure), so I reconstructed the fix from the problem description and validated it with a self-contained, runnable reproduction in /tmp/muster-repro.
Root cause: In internal/builtin/protocol.go, --doc was validated as a required flag rather than an optional mode selector. The handler returned --doc is required before it could choose an invocation strategy, making the already-supported --endpoint/--method/--args direct mode unreachable — even though JSON-RPC 2.0 needs no discovery document.
Fix: Branch on --doc:
- Direct mode (no --doc): pkg/protocol.NewDirectRequest(method, args) builds {jsonrpc:"2.0", id:1, method, params} and Invoke POSTs it to --endpoint.
- Discovery mode (--doc present): existing OpenRPC path unchanged.
- Help text updated to document both forms; docs/guides/ updated similarly.
go build ./... and go vet ./... clean.httptest JSON-RPC mock, including the key TestEndpointOnlyNoDoc (regression), a test proving the old path returned --doc is required, discovery-path preservation, and missing-endpoint validation.--help shows both modes. The document is self-contained with the full code, behavior matrix, grep commands to locate/verify the change, and reproducible verification steps.
