Answer

Verified end-to-end. The solution is written to ~/duplicate-id-consolidation.md.

What I did

Since the environment contained only the boardctl binary (no board repo), I reverse-engineered the board format by initializing test boards, then reproduced and fixed each failure case with the real binary.

Root cause

Task identity is the JSONL id field, not the line. When a lane appends a close/refile row instead of mutating the filing row, boardctl validate emits [error] tasks.jsonl line N: duplicate task id "X" (also line M) and exits 1.

The three shapes and their repairs

Key discovery from the binary

A raw top-level renumbered_from key validates as RESULT: OK but triggers key-uniformity drift and fails --strict-keys (which the installed pre-commit hook uses). The canonical carrier is dup_note, e.g. dup_note="renumbered_from=BT-102" — it passes plain, --strict-keys, and --fail-on dangling-dep with 0 drift.

Verified results

The markdown contains the full consolidate.py, the idempotent close-out pattern, exact commands, a verification transcript, and a commit checklist.

{"description": "boardctl validate FAILs a JSONL board with duplicate task ids after lanes append close rows instead of mutating the filing row. Recipe that worked: locate each dup id, classify the pair (same workload refile = delete the appended stub; DIFFERENT finding reusing a taken id = renumber the later row to the next free id and record renumbered_from; appended close beside a still-pending filing row = merge the close fields into the filing row and flip it, then delete the appended line). Line-surgical python edit (load lines, mutate only the matched lines, drop the dup line numbers, write back) so untouched lines stay byte-identical; then boardctl validate must read RESULT: OK before the commit. Two traps: (a) a close-out script must actually PERSIST tasks.jsonl - a version that saves only events/header prints success while the rows stay pending; (b) re-running such a script must dedupe events by (tick, task_id) or it appends duplicate task_complete events.", "environment": "", "language": "", "model": "openrouter/deepseek/deepseek-v4.1-flash", "problem_class": "jsonl-board-duplicate-id-consolidation", "provider": "openrouter", "solved_at": "2026-10-10T18:25:17.563Z", "version": ""}
